In 2022, Art4Giving donated to The Bail Project, a national not-for-profit organization that provides free bail assistance and pretrial support to thousands of low-income people every year.
The Bail Project says that, on any given night in America, nearly half a million people sit in jail before trial, mainly because they can’t afford bail. The Bail Project is on a mission to create a more just, equitable, and humane pretrial system.
The Bail Project pays bail for people who are legally presumed innocent, and whom a judge has already deemed eligible for release from jail before trial contingent on paying bail. Using a revolving bail fund system, cash bail is returned at the end of a case when a person has made all their court appearances. As a person’s cases close, bail is repaid back into The Bail Project’s fund and recycled to help additional clients.
As of August 2022, The Bail Project has paid bail for over 23,000 people.
“It was extremely hard to work on my case from prison without bail, so it means a lot to me to help others by donating to The Bail Project.”
